SmartGym 7.11

Faster logging, fewer taps. This update brings a new Inline Logging interface to iPhone, an all-new custom keyboard built for quick adjustments, and a redesigned Smart Action Button.

Explore the Update

New Logging UI for the iPhone app

Alongside the release of watchOS 10, we introduced a second logging interface for Apple Watch.

It was built for a specific type of users: those that want to adjust and log every set as they go.

The default interface could already do this. But for users who regularly change weight, reps, or other values set by set, the process felt unnecessarily slow: tap Edit, adjust the set, save the changes, then repeat.

Not everyone wants to work out that way. But for those who do, logging should not interrupt the workout.

So, instead of moving into a separate editing flow, the interface shows a single set directly on screen. You can adjust its values in place, log it immediately, and continue. After logging, SmartGym starts the rest timer right there on the same screen.

Now, we are bringing that same approach to the iPhone app (when we say SmartGym is an Apple Watch-first app, we really mean it ๐Ÿ˜‰).

With this update, you will be able to choose between the current logging interface and the new Inline Logging interface.

That choice matters because there is no single right way to work out. Some people prefer reviewing and editing their session in a broader view. Others want to focus on one set at a time, make adjustments in the moment, and log each set with as little friction as possible.

With Inline Logging, tapping any field opens a new custom keyboard designed for quick changes. Adjust the values, log the set, and move on.

You will also notice a small badge in the bottom-right corner of the text field. That badge shows what the set was originally planned to be.

This is important because SmartGym is not only about recording what you did. It is also about helping you understand what you were supposed to do.

Your workout plan exists to move you toward a goal. Seeing the planned set alongside the set you actually completed makes it easier to stay on track during the workout and easier to see whether you are progressing over time.

All New Custom Keyboard

At SmartGym, simplicity is not a design preference. It is the product.

SmartGym is a tool that helps people reach their goals and build healthier lives. That means every interaction needs to be clear, effortless, and fast enough to stay out of the way.

That is why we built our own keyboard inside the app (there is no need to install anything, it's tied to the app's text field).

The new SmartGym keyboard includes shortcuts designed for the moments that happen in every workout. The + and โˆ’ buttons let you adjust weight or reps by one with a single tap.

That may sound small. But imagine your target is 10 reps and you complete 11. Instead of deleting a number, finding the right key, and typing again, you tap + once and move on.

Now multiply that by four sets per exercise and ten exercises per workout.

Those saved taps add up. Less time entering data means less distraction between sets, less interruption to your rhythm, and more focus on the workout itself.

The keyboard also makes it easier to change a set's type. Previously, you had to leave the keyboard, tap the set row, and select a new type, often changing your grip on the phone in the process. Now, the set button is within reach right where you are already typing.

Every second we remove from the app is a second you get back for what matters: training.

Redesigned Smart Action Button

The Smart Action Button is one of SmartGym's most intelligent features.

It simplifies the workout experience by predicting what the user is most likely to do next. Behind the scenes, SmartGym understands where you are in your routine and predicts what you are most likely to do next. It then updates the interface to surface the right action at the right time.

No menus to search through. No extra decisions. Just one clear next step.

That alone makes workouts feel faster and easier to follow. And that matters most when your focus shifts away from the screen. Between sets, during a conversation, or after a short break, a single glance is enough to see exactly where you left off and what comes next.

We have now redesigned the Smart Action Button to make it more prominent, more useful, and even more aware of the many situations that can happen during a workout.

Here are just some of the actions users can perform with the Smart Action Button. Better yet, they can configure their iPhone's Action Button to trigger the Smart Action Button.

It can better recognize whether the user has finished a set, is moving to the next exercise, or is returning after an interruption. In each case, it surfaces the action that makes the most sense for that moment.

The result is a feature that feels even more natural. SmartGym quietly handles the complexity in the background, while the user sees only what they need, exactly when they need it.

The Smart Action Button keeps your workout moving with a single tap. It is simple, fast, and almost invisible. It just works.
